Why does my TV turn on but stay on the wrong input when an Activity starts?

In short

The input command reaches the TV while it is still starting up, so the TV ignores it. In an Activity, a step's delay is the wait after that step's command. Put the delay on the TV's Power On step, not on the input step. About 8 seconds works for many Samsung TVs.

How Activity delays work

Each step in an Activity can carry a delay, and Roomie waits that long after sending the step's command before moving on. A long delay on the input step therefore does nothing to help: the input is sent right after Power On, and the wait happens afterwards.

Finding the right number

Start with around 8 seconds on Power On and run the Activity from a fully off TV. If the input switches reliably, shorten the delay a second at a time until it fails, then add a second back. Models differ, and a TV's quick-start or network standby setting usually shortens the time it needs.

Keep the order simple

Power on the TV first, then switch its input, then power on the receiver or soundbar and any sources. Other devices can follow with short delays. In Roomie 10.6, Add Wait is now called Add Delay.
