Why does my WeatherFlow Tempest show "Not detected" in Roomie?
In short
Roomie finds a Tempest by listening for the hub's local broadcasts, so the hub and your Roomie devices must be on the same network. The usual cause is a hub on a separate IoT VLAN or subnet, because broadcasts don't cross between networks. Put the hub on the same network as your controllers, or relay UDP broadcast port 50222 between the VLANs if your router supports it.
How Tempest detection works
There's no device to add. Open the Weather panel, tap the gear icon, and enable Tempest. Stations Roomie can hear on your network appear for selection. The live readings travel in those same local broadcasts, and a controller only uses them while it's on the same network as the station.
VLANs and separate networks
Many people keep smart-home gear on its own VLAN, but broadcast traffic stays inside the network it's sent on. A Tempest hub on an IoT VLAN is invisible to an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV on your main network, even when normal traffic between the two is allowed. Either move the hub to your controllers' network, or set up a UDP broadcast relay for port 50222 from the IoT VLAN to the main network. Some routers and firewalls can relay any broadcast port, while many consumer mesh systems only relay mDNS, which doesn't help here.
Why typing in a station ID isn't enough
Entering a station or serial number wouldn't bring readings back on its own, because the live data itself arrives in those local broadcasts. The personal access token in the Tempest settings is used for the daily rain total, not for live readings.
