Sony receiver responds to commands, but volume feedback shows "–"
In short
Sony has shipped two generations of its receiver IP protocol, and Roomie's model list carries codesets for both. Receivers from the STR-DN1070 onward speak the newer generation (the "DN-1070+" entries); the older "STR DN-10X0" profile can push some commands to a newer receiver but never gets status back — so the volume display sits at "–". Switch the device's model to the DN-1070+ entry and update the port, and live feedback appears.
Two protocol generations, one confusing symptom
Older Sony receivers use a binary control protocol on port 33335; the STR-DN1070, STR-DN1080, and everything after use a newer protocol on port 33336. A newer receiver added with the older profile can look half-working: power and volume presses land, but the receiver never answers status queries, so Roomie can't show the current volume, input, or sound field. One-way control is the tell.
Edit in place — don't delete and re-add
Open the receiver's device settings, change the model to the matching "DN-1070+" zone entry, and then change the port from 33335 to 33336 — the port does not update automatically when the model changes, and that missed step is the classic way a fix turns into "now nothing works." Editing in place preserves the device's identity, so Activities that reference it keep working untouched. If you run a second zone, make the same change there; both zones share port 33336 on the newer protocol.
One receiver-side setting worth confirming
Enable Network Standby (on some models, Remote Start) in the receiver's own network settings so it accepts power-on while idle. With the right model, the right port, and standby enabled, volume, input, and sound-field feedback all report live.
