Why won't my Epson projector power off (or respond at all) over the network?

In short

Add it with Epson's "Add Manually - PJLink (4352)" option. If an older setup paired Epson's "All Models" code set with port 4352, delete the device and add it again: that code set is for serial control, while port 4352 speaks PJLink. Retype the IP address by hand, since a pasted address with hidden spaces fails silently. And give the projector about a minute after Power On before sending Power Off, because PJLink projectors refuse Power Off while warming up.

Pick PJLink, not All Models

Epson projectors are controlled over the network with PJLink on port 4352. Epson's "All Models" code set speaks ESC/VP21, which is meant for serial control, either direct or through an IP-to-serial adapter. Pairing that code set with port 4352 can leave some or all commands ignored, and some older setups ended up with exactly that combination. If your projector was added a while ago and misbehaves, delete it and add it again using "Add Manually - PJLink (4352)" with the same IP address.

Check the address field for hidden spaces

An IP address pasted with a leading or trailing space looks correct in the editor but can't be resolved. No connection is ever made, so every command fails. Clear the address field and type the address by hand.

Power Off right after Power On is refused by the projector

While a projector warms up, which takes roughly 45 seconds on current Epson laser models, PJLink projectors answer Power Off with an "unavailable" error and ignore it. That's how the PJLink standard works, not a dropped command, and it's why a quick on-then-off test can make Power Off look like it needs a second press. Normal viewing won't run into it. When testing, wait a full minute after Power On.

Projector settings to check

Enable PJLink in the projector's network settings. If you set a network password on the projector, enter it when adding the device. To power the projector on over the network from standby, set its standby mode to keep network communication on (the menu name varies by model). If the projector offers a Control4 control port option, turn it off.
