Why doesn't a PIN ever appear on my Apple TV when I pair it with Roomie or Now Showing?
In short
The Apple TV is probably set to allow only people in your Apple Home to connect. On the Apple TV, go to Settings › AirPlay and HomeKit › Allow Access and choose Anyone on the Same Network, then start pairing again. The PIN should appear right away.
What's happening
Pairing asks the Apple TV to show a PIN on screen. When Allow Access is set to Only People Sharing This Home, or another restricted option, the Apple TV quietly refuses that request. You get no PIN and no error message on either side.
The fix
On the Apple TV, open Settings › AirPlay and HomeKit › Allow Access and choose Anyone on the Same Network. Start pairing again from Roomie, or from Now Showing's Start Display, and enter the PIN when it appears. Keep the Apple TV and your iPhone, iPad, or Mac on the same network while you pair.
If it still doesn't pair
Restart the Apple TV, make sure it isn't asleep, and try again with Roomie or Now Showing open in the foreground on a device on the same network. If no PIN appears even with Allow Access set to Anyone on the Same Network, contact support with diagnostics from the device you were pairing from.
