This thread is a feature request from 2014, preserved from the original Roomie Remote forum. It reflects what users were asking for at the time — many requests from this era have since shipped in Roomie Remote X. See current compatibility for today's device support.

In short

I have all commands working fine, but nothing I do can get a Media guide to come up when in Plex, so I do not get the pretty icons at the top when I am playing movies / TV shows. I am in the UK, could this be the issue or should it work anyway?

I've deleted and recreated the Plex device loads of times, but no luck...

Staff response: I've seen a few tickets like that over the years. It looks like it's usually a misconfiguration of your Plex server. Support can assist in narrowing it down.

Found it. It was the Plex password entered in the device area. I had changed the password, but cannot have updated my password manager.

So for anyone else who has this issue, if you can control Plex OK with SM but not see anything in the guide then check your Plex user name / password is correct

Will, as a suggestion is it possible to add a routine checking the password as its entered, currently there is no indication that its right or wrong?

Hello,

I would like to see full support for Plex Media Server including the ability to browse media through a guide (Like the Plex app). This will avoid having to open the Plex app in order to select a movie etc and complete the integration with Roomie.

Given the popularity of Plex I'm surprised this hasn't already been included.

Support stated that we need more support, so if anyone would like the same, please add your vote below!

Does Plex use JSON, like XBMC? If so, should just be an 'enhancement' to the XBMC support (Since Plex is a subset of XBMC)

Unfortunately, Plex took the basic control section of XBMC's JSON API from Frodo, but then did not take the rest of it, so Plex's Media Guide related APIs are completely different from XBMC.

While we control Plex well today, adding a Media Guide is its own effort. Regardless, it is currently at the top of the list of Media Guides to add and has a pretty good chance to make a near term release.

FWIW - I installed PlexConnect hack ( no jailbreak required) on my Apple TV and Plex Server and it works great. I just configure Roomie for ATV and use the ATV standard remote interface as the full Plex media guide is presented in ATV format.

Amazing result with a clever DNS trick and scripting. My congrats to the PlexConnect devs and here's hoping Apple doesn't "fix" this.

Even if I didn't own an ATV already, I would buy it just to run Plex/PlexConnect.

I am using the xbmc interface using OpenElec on a Zotac AD12 compact-computer. I loaded the Amber skin which supports PleXBMC, which is an addon that allows xbmc to read from a Plex media server. Amber integrates it into the XBMC menus directly.

With this above, Roomie works well with my OpenElec installation.

I would love to remove that whole step, and go right to PHT on the Zotac if/when Roomie supports it. Although Plexbmc works correctly, and integrates to xbmc well, there is just a small feeling of 'disconnectedness' with it's integration.
