In planning for Roomie X, because it is a different app with more changes than usual, and the current app will exist for current users if they are on older iOS versions, one thing that could certainly accelerate the adoption of various UI improvements would be moving directly to iOS 26. This would mean skipping iOS 18 as the baseline that would normally occur this year. In general, each year we have some number of stragglers that finally evens out a year later which is why we have a 1-year-back compatibility policy. So I thought I'd take a poll as we're about to engage in what may be some pretty major UI changes as to whether requiring iOS 26 in the Fall, as part of a separate app Roomie X (name TBD), with the old app deprecated but still available to existing users, is viable. This poll just gets the idea of your migration timing. We also have lots of Apple data for the whole user base on this question from prior years, so I'm trying to bring that together with the future and feelings on iOS 26.

[poll type=regular results=always public=true chartType=bar]

  • Migrating to iOS 26 in September 25
  • Migrating to iOS 26 by January 25
  • Migrating to iOS 26 by Summer 26
  • Delaying migration due to old devices like iPhone XS
  • I never upgrade iOS unless forced to do so

Obviously this should be "by January 26", but editing the poll will reset it so leaving it.

I typically upgrade all of my devices to the new OS as soon as available. All of my roomie devices are compatible with iOS/iPadOS 26 and tvOS26 as well as Tahoe so no concerns with requiring 26 this fall.

It is official. Roomie 10/X will require iOS 26. This should be a one-time thing made easier by the fact that it is a separate app. For 2026, we will return to our normal one version back policy (continuing to support iOS 26).

This will apply to all future apps and all platforms. V9 will stay as it is. Now Showing 3 and Roomie 10 will be for iOS 26, tvOS 26, and macOS 26.
