In short

I'm confused, is the blaster simply a stronger version than the IR emitter ? the description is very vague about the reason why someone would choose one over the other

An emitter addresses 1 device via direct attachment to that device. Note in the diagram example how 1 emitter is attached directly to the TV and the blaster meanwhile is used to control multiple components in a cabinet.\r \r Thank you.
