My FIOS cisco dvr has a port on the back marked "IR". Can I use this to control it as oposed to using the itach ir cable — Staff replied: “Typically yes although there are certainly exceptions and some of them are quite important to get right the first time due to voltages. The Xantech products are an example of that.”

My FIOS cisco dvr has a port on the back marked "IR". Can I use this to control it as oposed to using the itach ir cable that you need to tape on?

Typically yes although there are certainly exceptions and some of them are quite important to get right the first time due to voltages. The Xantech products are an example of that.

In the case of that DVR, a simple mono to mono cable is what you would want to try, like the cable on this page:
