Reading other threads here's some additional detail:

  • Connection is via a TWC provided Motorola modem / router
  • UPnP is enabled
  • For example, my Roku which is on the same network via wifi works in discovery
  • Connection via manual IP works, I'm just not sure it's ideal

As long as you have it setup as a static IP or DHCP Reservation, it really doesn't matter:

Thanks Roomie! Is there any benefit to having the device recognized in providing more accurate buttons or is it always the same?

There is no difference as long as you have the device configured as static or reserved.
