If anyone can answer any of the above, I am considering purchasing the full home theater package as well, but I need to make sure I understand everything before i do.

We love to comment on just about everything, but we try to avoid commenting on direct feature requests. Dish IP support qualifies as that. We're aware that request exists.

Adding IR devices requires an iTach or L5 plus the Infrared Control Pack.

Any device that can change channels becomes a guide capable device.

The JSON set was just released. It's probably missing a couple of the tidbits that the old XBMC set had like that. We'll look into adding that.
