Questiongreg

I am (was) a long time iRule user - probably around 20 zones, 50 or so different devices controlled via TCP-IP, IR (via Global Cache), RS232 (via Global Cache) - many of them custom code libraries and so many different screens and panels I lost count. Roomie seems like a logical replacement and I purchased a one room subscription to do a POC. I can't for the life of me figure out how to put a screen together that will accomplish a simple task. Are there any intro docs / videos out there? I did a YouTube search and everything seems to be 10+ years old.

Definitely YouTube is hopelessly out of date for anything related to Roomie. We did a Now Showing video last year that went well, but even that was out of date a few months later due to features we added. Anyway, one day we will likely do a series of YouTube videos that have been sorely lacking for Roomie.

In a general sense, the flow of the video I used to update every year (until perhaps 2015) simply taught users about rooms, devices, and activities. Add each of them in that order.

The Setup Guide is the primary instructional material we provide, and it is frequently brought up to date.

iRule users tend to think in terms of "Screens" because that was the be-all end-all in that app. Toss that whole concept out. Go pure default Action Panels in Roomie just set up all your rooms, activities, and devices. Later, you then customize each panel to add or remove whatever you need.

I am an old iRule user as well...and yes, you have a learning curve here..and I'm still not sure everything is set up correctly? Some of the language used to describe panels or actions...are confusing to me....inline for sure! It was trial and error for me....and some happy mistakes.
